How to get inbound links

OK, so you’re all set up with your free PresellPro account and you’re getting great content posted to your blog. But no one is visiting your blog to read this great content, click the links and earn you commissions…

So what do you do?

There are two ways to get traffic to your site:

  • Pay for it
  • Get it free

I’m going to assume you’re interested in free traffic, so I’ll talk about that…

    How to get free traffic:

There are two main ways to get free traffic to your site:

    • From search engines
    • From other sites

Interestingly, the efforts you make to get traffic from other sites are what will eventually lead to traffic from the search engines. Search engine traffic is the holy grail of free traffic, so we’ll focus on that. And the things we’ll do to make this happen will also generate free traffic from other sites in the process. Pretty cool.

      Getting indexed

The first step in getting traffic from Google and other search engines is to get indexed. Getting indexed means that Google knows you exist. Google has visited your site and taken some notes on it (stored data in their massive database). Whether Google decides to share your site with others depends on your ranking… But the first step is getting indexed.

And the only way to get indexed is to get inbound links from sites that are already indexed and “crawled” regularly. When you have a link on one of these sites pointing to your domain (aka an “inbound link”) and the Google engine “crawls” that site (looks at it and sees what’s new) it will notice the link to your site. It will even follow that link and see what’s on your site.

This is how you get indexed. So, obviously, you need inbound links from sites that are already indexed.

One of the easiest ways to get inbound links is to use social bookmarking. Social bookmarking is like saving bookmarks in your browser to visit later. Except instead of saving them only for yourself, you save them in a public profile that everyone (including Google’s indexing engine) can see. And they are stored as active hyperlinks. So bookmarking your blog will get it indexed in Google.

      How to use social bookmarking:

The inbound links from social bookmarking sites don’t do anything to boost your ranking, so this is not what’s going to get you free traffic from Google. But they will get you indexed and that’s the first step.

There is value in getting a lot of these links, though. Even though each one doesn’t mean much, having lots of them is what Google expects to see for an “authority” site. Authority sites are what Google considers to be important sites and the content on them is given higher page rank. And page rank is what’s needed to start getting the free traffic.

So, even though these links don’t add to your page rank, having lots of inbound links is still important. So the first step is to get lots of inbound links – even if they are individually each of low quality.

We’ll talk about building authority and increasing your page rank soon. Please start your social bookmarking campaign now in preparation for this…

OK, let’s face it, we all want Free, right?!

Use your new blog URL in all your various forum signatures (careful not to spam the forums, as many are very touchy about this, but most allow you to add links in your signature).

Add the blog URL to any of your websites (even if just at the bottom as a standard link or a “Click here to visit my blog” text link).

Use it on Facebook, often. Add it to your Facebook and other social sites profile.

Add it to your email signature – not Google searched but still promoting your blog … somebody might even add it to their recommended sites list on their blog or website. You will be amazed over time to see where your traffic comes from. Check your website stats in cPanel sometime and take a look where your visits are coming from (I like AWSTATS for this and most web hosts have it available in your cPanel).

Does your presell pro system allow the “blog domain owners” to post some of their
other “clickbank affiliate” programs that they are trying to promote on this blog. Or is it counter productive and will cause problems.

        • Dustin Struckman September 16, 2010 at 6:11 pm #

Absolutely, you can post anything you want to your blog. The only restriction is that you can’t modify the content I post for you and you can’t re-use my content anywhere else.

        Hi Dustin,

Thanks for the contents ….There are two things here: First do you mean we cannot add an affiliate link to the content you posted for us? and second, cos I really a newbie with internet marketing so can you be more specified with how to use social bookmarking like taking facebook as a example..

        • Dustin Struckman November 23, 2010 at 3:12 am #

Hello and thank you for asking. If you want to add other affiliate links to your blog, you’ll need to write your own articles to add those links in. These articles are specifically written to presell specific products. Adding other links into them will dilute the effects.

For information about social bookmarking and a ton of other ways to build and promote your blog, please refer to our Blog Success Training system.

      19. Ric O'Neill November 18, 2010 at 12:46 am #

Hi Dustin, I am new to all this but what a fantastic way to start! thank you.

How to get inbound links—I think this may help out..

I have set up a free site with a free domain which anyone can do with free google sites take a look at mine for example.

Now when you are set up ad your links.
You can even set up your contact and message box to link to your google docs for those who can not afford responders.

My thinking here is this would be a good way for every one to link to each other on their links page. Your members are welcome to request a link for a link. Would this class as inbound links?
        thanks
        Ric

        • Dustin Struckman November 23, 2010 at 2:52 am #

          Hey Ric,

I’m glad you made this post! There are quite a few things here that seem like good ideas, but will not produce results.

          1. Google’s free sites are great for non-profits or personal websites that don’t need to present any level of professionalism required to gain trust that leads to sales.

          2. To make any money online you need your own domain with WordPress installed.

          3. Google includes links to their services, which don’t make you any money. All free web hosting services do this. There’s no point in working to get people to your site, if you’re going to include links that don’t make you any money.

          4. You can’t install WordPress on Google site. So, this won’t work with PresellPro at all. Some free web hosts will allow you to install WordPress, so I’ve included the other answers for this reason.

          5. Trading links is completely useless. Google is very smart and will very quickly see that you’ve done exactly this. Therefore neither of you will get any “link juice” for the traded links. Please review Module 2 – Power Ranking our Blog Success Training system for detailed info on this.

        Hi Dustin,

I have been praying for a way to provide my readers (few but growing) with awesome unique worth while content and you have answered them! Not to mention much needed in content links for affiliate income and traffic strategies. God bless you my friend. You will never know how much you have helped me become a better blogger. :-)

Have a Merry Christmas and to all a Happy New Year!!!

        Sincerely,

Just got my first article published through PresellPro today, and it looks great. I’m pretty picky and found that I only had to tweak a couple of spots for spacing and punctuation. This is so much nicer and way better quality than the PLR articles I’m
used to rewriting. And I enjoyed reading the article as well. I may learn something!

The setup was easy, your instructions were clear and simple to follow, and I feel very confident in this sytem.

Thanks, and I’m off to do some social bookmarking now,

        RJ

A very informative peace of work. I had no knowledge about Bookmarking in relation to steps towards website indexing. This also explained it very well the difference between site indexing and site ranking. Thanks a lot.

Fantastic Ann! I am sure the training will continue to be full of information you can use.

Thanks a lot for all your excellent posts, Dustin (and many of those who comment on them too).
There a LOT of usefull information to pick up here, and more people should get to know your site. I will definately place a link to your site. That’s the very least I can do to thank you for the loads of free and usefull stuff you are giving us.

        Keep on going, Dustin ;-)

        Thanks again,
