DIY WordPress Setup

The first thing to understand about setting up a WordPress blog is that you absolutely want to run it on your own domain. If you use WordPress.com, you will be restricted in the ways you can use your blog and in the types of articles you can post to it. So, there’s no decision there – you need to run it on your own domain.

Now, there are two ways that you can get a WordPress blog running on your domain. This article shows you how to do it yourself…

WordPress Setup – DIY Method

The do it yourself method is pretty easy if you have even minimal experience with FTP and MySQL. WordPress.org has great tutorial called there “Famous 5-minute Install” and it really is quite simple.

You basically download a package, unzip it and then upload it to your server via FTP. You’ll also need to set up a MySQL database and user, generate some secure keys using a tool provided by WordPress and then edit one PHP file to add the db user / pass and secure keys.

It really does take about 5 minutes . . . if you know what you’re doing and don’t run into any problems…

You can do it this way if you’ve got your own server or a shared hosting account with FTP access and the ability to create MySQL databases. Or you can select a WordPress host that handles all this for you.

With the low cost of both domain names and web hosting these days there is really no excuse for not having a professional appearance. The better you look, then the more likelihood that you will impress your blog/site visitor and make them want to take “your” advice on various products and services that you make money from through affiliation or your own product.

Spend some time, pick a great domain name, host it yourself at a good webhost like Hostgator for little cost, and you are in business. So much for so little!

PresellPro is brilliant and a win-win situation. It is the closest thing to a hands-free income generating solution. The added bonus of being free, updated with new articles/posts for free, and on a free platform (WordPress), is brilliant.

Thanks, Dustin! A great solution that requires very little work.

I have Several Domains where I can put Word Press accounts. One is an Article site where I have sub domains i.e http://ebay.articleweblinks.com/ , http://loseweight.articleweblinks.com/ etc. I can create a subdomain of intermarketing.articleweblinks.com/ and put Word Press there.

Another site is about Internet Marketing, but targeted to “local business” so your articles would need to be appropriate to local, not just Internet Marketing in general

Would either of these work or should I get a NEW domain

You can use a sub-domain, but if it needs to be local and not general IM, then the best this to do would be to get a new domain. See the next article on automatic WordPress setup to get it going quickly.
